Adverb Clause of Purpose
หมายถึง Clause ซึ่งไปทำหน้าที่ขยายกริยาหรือขยาย Adverb เพื่อบอกให้ทราบว่า
การกระทำนั้นๆ กระทำขึ้นเพื่อจุดมุ่งหมายอะไร และลักษณะของประโยคจะขึ้นต้นด้วย Subordinate Conjunction ต่อไปนี้
So that
เพื่อว่า, เผื่อว่า
That เพื่อว่า (นิยมใช้ภาษาพูด)
So
เพื่อว่า
(นิยมใช้ภาษาพูด)
In order that
เพื่อว่า
For the purpose that เพื่อว่า, ด้วยประสงค์ว่า
Lest
เพื่อว่าจะได้ไม่
In case
(that)
เพื่อว่าจะได้ไม่
For fear
that ด้วยเกรงว่า, เพราะเกรงว่า
Ex
We eat that we may live.
เรากินเพื่อว่าเราจะมีชีวิตอยู่ต่อไป
I study hard so that I may pass my examination.
ฉันเรียนอย่างหนักเพื่อที่ว่าฉันจะได้สอบผ่าน
She comes so she sees her mother.
เธอมาเพื่อว่าเธอจะได้พบกับแม่ของเธอ
Some people live in order that they may hope.
บางคนก็มีชีวิตอยู่เพื่อความหวัง
He took medicine for the purpose that he might recover.
เขาทานยาด้วยประสงค์ว่าอยากจะหายไข้
I’m telling you this lest you should make a mistake.
ฉันบอกเรื่องนี้แก่คุณ
เพื่อที่ว่าคุณจะได้ไม่ทำผิดพลาด
I helped him for fear that he failed in the exam.
ฉันช่วยเหลือเขาด้วยเกรงว่าเขาจะสอบตก
Don’t let him go too near the bank of the river in case he falls in.
อย่าให้เขาเข้าไปใกล้ฝั่งแม่น้ำมากนัก
เผื่อว่าเขาจะได้ไม่ตกลงไป
**1. that, so that และ in order that มักใช้คู่กับ may, might เสมอ
**2. lest มีความหมายเท่ากับ so that........not (เพื่อที่จะได้ไม่)
